PRODUCTION NEWS
"Ho Ho HO" said Santa. "No! No! No!" Protested the kids as they were dragged towards Santa's Grotty Grotto.
Quite a few heads were turned in an Ottawa Mall last weekend when one of our camera crews under 13 year old student Director Simon Rein, filmed preliminary scenes for some Christmas sketches. The role of Mom, Grandma and Mrs. Claus was played by Caren MacNevin.

Santa's Grotty Grotto was reconstructed in our own studio on Merivale Road. Movie and TV actor Christian Tessier - The Day After Tomorrow (2004), Taking Lives (2004) and Godzilla (2014) to list just a few of his credits (imdb.com), played the menacing Santa that no kid ever wants to meet in some hilarious Christmas comedy sketches. "Have you been naughty or nice?"

Not a bad end to their first few weeks at KAMPS for some of our young students. How many kids get to film their end of term production working alongside people from the professional world of movies and network television?
Christian Tessier returns to Kid Next Door Productions next installment of kid sketch comedy with newcomers Caren MacNevin and Charlotte.
TOP 10 BENEFITS OF ACTING
Eleven year old Cooper Dunn, great grandson of legendary Ottawa Actor Les Lye who portrayed Ross, Barth and a host of other characters on the very popular Nickelodeon series You Can't Do That On Television, and dozens of characters in other shows such as Care Bears and Willy and Floyd Show appeared recently on Rogers' Daytime Ottawa to talk about KAMP School where kids from 6 to 16 years of age can learn acting and TV production from industry professionals.
OLD TV SCHOOL GETS NEW NAME
KAMP SCHOOL is an old school with a new name. In 1974, in the UK Producer Roger Price started making Series for the ITV Network with kids coached by the inspirational Anna Scher. One of these kids was the then 14 year old Pauline Quirke, who now herself runs a chain of Drama Schools around the UK. In 1978, Price moved to Canada and along with Carole Hay redesigned the course to concentrate more on actting professionally for the camera to prepare kids for the Iconic Nickelodeon TV series You Can't Do That On Television. Class were held at CJOH-TV at 1500 Merivale. In 1982 the class was incorporated into Kid Next Door Productions Inc. and next door to 1504 Merivale Rd (Now JUMP/BOOM Radio).
In 2017, in preparation for the 40th anniversary of You Can't Do That On Television, a video call with Nickelodeon informed us that they were finding it hard to find comedy sketch writers and actors as good as they once had.

The answer was easy, they all came from Ottawa.

In July 2018, KAMP School, (an abbreviation for Kid Acting Music Production) became a Canadian Corporation opening it's doors to a new generation of Ottawa kid stars.
Back Row: Coach Carole Hay, Elisabeth, Christine "Moose" McGlade, Mark Baillon, Producer and Director Roger Price. Front Row: Kevin Schenk, Kevin Somers, Les Lye, Rodney Helal and Jonothon Gerbert

T.H.E. Television Network is what Nickelodeon and YTV was based on
"Nickelodeon owes a lot to You Can't Do That On Television, and not just the element of Slime." Scott Webb, former Nickelodeon Creative Director.

You Can't Do That On Television was the little low budget local kids' show from Ottawa that set the tone for YTV in Canada but more importantly Nickelodeon in the USA and around the world.

It was TV 'On The Side Of The Child'

Now the spirit lives on and the fictional TV network that supposedly produced it has become real on the Web.
